ABOUT US

Consumer Rated Shopping (CRS) was created by teachers--who also happen to be on-line shoppers--to support the work of the Center for Innovation in Education (Center). The Center is a non-profit educational organization, that was co-founded in 1975 by two classroom teachers, Mary and Bob Baratta-Lorton. Mary and Bob shared the belief that all children can learn and that every child matters. Together, Bob and Mary developed curriculum in mathematics and reading to help elementary school teachers implement this philosophy in their classrooms.

The Center's mathematics curriculum is embodied in the books Mathematics Their Way and Mathematics a Way of Thinking, which are used by classroom teachers and home-schooling parents alike. Without the use of any outside funds or government financing, the Center has grown to be the leading provider of mathematics inservice and training in the country. Nearly 300,000 teachers across the United States and Canada have participated in Center workshops.

The Center's reading curriculum is embodied in the Dekodiphukan (Decode-if-you-can) Reading Program, which is in use in nearly 2,000 classrooms across the country, but which has not yet been published commercially.

To learn more about the Center for Innovation in Education, click on the For Teachers button in the menu bar. For teachers, or parents who teach at home, there are free curriculum materials available for downloading from the site.

100% of the profit earned from Consumer Rated Shopping goes to support the teaching activities of the Center for Innovation in Education in both mathematics and reading.
